Hello and Merhaba!

I am Muhammet Koçak

I serve as an Assistant Professor at the Institute of Area Studies at the Social Sciences University of Ankara. My scholarly pursuits have primarily been anchored in International Relations, with a keen emphasis on the complex ties between Russia and Turkey as well as the political issues in the Turkic World.

I earned my PhD in 2021 from Florida International University. My in-depth exploration of the 21st Century Turkey-Russia nexus birthed a dissertation, which dissected decision-making in both nations, casting light on their responses to regional occurrences, emerging global norms, and worldwide economic movements. This comprehensive work has now been transformed into a book, proudly published by Lexington Books.

During my academic voyage, I delved deeply into International Security Studies, Research Methods, and Foreign Policy's multifaceted domain. This foundation paved the way for me to author a book chapter, produce five journal articles, and present my findings at over twenty international conferences.

My passion for imparting knowledge has led me to teach seven diverse courses, spanning topics from the post-Soviet Region to International Relations Theory. I've taught in a variety of settings—be it in-person, online, or hybrid—and my commitment to fostering a collaborative learning environment was acknowledged when I received the 'Best Graduate Student Instructor Award' in 2020.

Outside the lecture halls and research rooms, I often share perspectives on Russian and Turkish foreign policies. My thoughts have found platforms in prestigious publications such as Middle East Eye, Al Sharq Forum, TRT World, and several others.

Beyond the world of books and theories, my heart is filled with gratitude for my family. I am profoundly blessed with the company of my wife and our two wonderful daughters, who remain the beacon of barakah (blessings) in my life.
